Give the Gift of a French Immersion Holiday Camp! Join Chef Owner Kathryn Joel for a festive two-day French Immersion Holiday Camp on December 28 and 29, where you’ll dive into the foundational techniques of classic French cooking. Over two immersive days, you’ll learn to make flavourful chicken and veal stocks, a traditional demi-glace, and a selection of French classics, including Terrine Grand-Mère, Beef Braised in Red Wine—pressed, portioned, and served with Pommes Purée—and a beautifully Roasted Chicken with perfectly crisped skin. You’ll also master pâte à choux for light, airy Gougères, and slowly caramelize onions for a deeply flavourful French Onion Soup. Additional highlights include creating an Orange Soufflé with Crème Anglaise. Along the way, we’ll taste samples as we cook, savouring each dish’s unique flavours, and each day will conclude with a meal featuring the sumptuous dishes we’ve prepared together. Every week, Edmonton Public Library hosts Culinary Book Club. Culinary Book Club is part book club, where you’ll discuss the book of the week, but you’ll also create a meal based on the book! This month, there are two rounds of Culinary Book Club: December 8 and 23, 2024. In the first session, you’ll read: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and create flatbread and pesto. In the second edition, on the 23rd, you’ll read Circe making jackfruit tacos with greek salad. Delicious! The best part? Tickets for these events are only five bucks!

Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the kitchen with Get Cooking! Ring in the New Year with an unforgettable interactive dining experience, featuring fan-favourite flavours from our Asian-inspired classes, elevated for an extraordinary night. Join Chef Owner Kathryn Joel as she leads you through a sophisticated menu with hands-on moments to enhance your evening. Begin with Oysters on the Half Shell with Nahm Jim and Crispy Shallots, and Tuna Tataki, followed by Pressed Flamed Sushi and Confit Duck Pancakes with Hoisin. Indulge in Braised Beef Short Ribs in a rich Red Thai Curry Sauce and end on a sweet note with Lemongrass Crème Brulée. At midnight, we’ll raise a glass of bubbles to toast the New Year together.

Learn to Cook Empanadas
Get ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to craft three different versions of Argentine-style empanadas from scratch! Chef Fabricio will kick off the class by teaching you how to make empanada dough.
Next, you’ll prepare three different fillings and learn how to seal each empanada with its own signature fold, so that they’ll taste as delicious as they are beautiful.

There’s a second class popping up - the world of bubbles, if you’re looking for a great cocktail experience!

City of Edmonton offers monthly cooking classes, as well. You can learn skills like artisan bread making or cupcake decorating. You can even take a class to learn to cook Canadian Cuisine! Or, the popular Thai: Shop, Cook and Eat cooking class. In that class, you’ll learn how sweet, salty, sour and hot flavour profiles make up one of the most popular cultural foods around. First you will meet at a grocery store to shop and learn about traditional ingredients, then you'll return to City Arts Centre to create a thai food extravaganza learning the tips and tricks for tom yum goong soup, panang curry, green papaya salad, coconut shrimp and lots more!
